At the San Fermin festival in Pamplona, Spain, the encierro sends a group of bulls through the town's streets while people run ahead of them. The event, formalized in the town's calendar across the centuries, is one of the few throws in the archive in which the human participants function as the released objects. The compliance desk approaches it with the caution the category demands.
In conventional terms, a throw involves an operator and a projectile. The encierro collapses the two. The runners propel themselves down a narrow, walled course ahead of a following mass, and the course itself — cobbled, turning, and confined — supplies the governing hazard.
